Closing Out 2019

Go Small, Go Far

Closing Out 2019

Happy Holidays!

First of all… HAPPY HOLIDAYS! We hope that you are enjoying this special time of year. We wish you an amazing new decade!

Well, here it is, the last day of 2019. What have we accomplished? Where did we fall short?

I think we all ask ourselves these questions as we review 2019 and make plans for a more successful 2020. We do the same thing. We made some major changes in 2019. How did it all work out? Well…

It all started in 2018. We decided to make some major changes in our life. We held family meetings over coffee, beer, and great food. OK, some of that food wasn’t so great. We did a colossal u-turn. As we mentioned in a previous post, we returned to our sailing life but with a twist. How did that all work out?

We worked hard on the boat and sailed it north from southern California to the inside waters of Southeast Alaska. We sailed over 2000 nautical miles! We then drove the truck north to Alaska as well. Finally, we settled in for the winter. These three sentences took most of the year to accomplish. I wound up taking a day job to help finance all of this. Thus, this crazy break in posts and progress. If you would like details on our sailing adventures, pop on over to our sailing blog: svtenderspirit.com. I will be updating that blog to include our north-bound journey.

We love our RV Truck Camping blog. So, we decided to keep it going, but on a smaller scale for the following reasons:

1. Our road tripping plans for 2020 will be limited. We are happy with our split camping-sailing lifestyle choice we made last year.

2. We spend most of the year in remote parts of Alaska with minimal internet. Media-rich blog posts are difficult to pull off.

3. Moving forward with sailing, camping, and a full-time day job leaves much less time to pull off frequent blog posts. We opted for quality over quantity.

4. We don’t want to pull the plug on the blog just because we have limited resources. Readers have given us enormous encouragement to continue, even if it is on a smaller scale.

We will continue to enjoy camping on a part-time basis. We will spend time out exploring the logging roads around Chichagof Island. We will share those exploits with you. The logging roads are not maintained during the winter, so we will hit the road once the snow and ice are gone.
